Abstract
In this chapter I focus on the study of literacy practices in educational settings. By this I mean not settings designed for the teaching and learning of literacy, but those where the main goal is the learning of curriculum subjects, ranging from Applied Science to Childcare. These curriculum areas may seem odd examples to those familiar with primary or elementary education or the traditional subjects of the secondary curriculum: they are examples of courses in vocational and further education.
