Abstract
In 1964, Terence Morris and Louis Blom-Cooper dedicated their book A Calendar of Murder: Criminal Homicide in England since 1957 to:
Sir Ernest Gowers, GCB, GBE, Chairman of the Royal Commission into Capital Punishment 1949–1953 whose report ranks as one of the great social documents of our age, and whose recommendations have been — to the country’s detriment — spurned by the legislature.1
