Abstract
Early forecasts concerning the impact of Y2K were bleak; however, the true magnitude of the problem will never really be known. From a technical standpoint, Y2K was largely characterized as a problem of dependence on IT, including embedded systems; interdependence across systems; systems complexity; and a fixed time horizon. These assumptions are contestable but not refutable.
