Abstract

Having analysed corporate social responsibility (CSR) in general in Chapter 1, it is important now to understand why the book focuses on urban settings. The first two sections of Chapter 2 provide background data and an analysis to explain why one should pay attention to urban development: the first section focuses on the importance of cities and towns to development, and the second on the problems and challenges of urban poverty. Following, in section three, the chapter analyses the gap on CSR in the urban development literature.
