Structural Change in Intermediate, Consumption and Capital Goods Trade During Economic Integration: the EU Experience

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: IDE-JETRO Series ((IDE))

Abstract

The East Asian integration process was preceded by another integration process. From the early 1950s onwards, an increasing number of European countries started to tear down mutual tariff walls and reduce non-tariff barriers to trade. This chapter aims to analyse the consequences of earlier integration in Europe, and to give insights into potential future effects of similar tendencies in East Asia.
