Abstract

Just as Aristotle’s ‘Lyceum’ served as the place for deliberation about the role of practical wisdom for statesmen in ancient Athens, we believe the modern-day business school is the best place to deliberate about practical wisdom in organizations. And just as Aristotle assumed that the social world was so complex that practical wisdom (and not just science or cunning) was required for leaders, we suggest that organizations faced with the need for preparedness will benefit if managers increasingly reflect on and cultivate practical wisdom.
