Religion and Political Differences in the North

  • Chapter
Holy Warriors, Infidels, and Peacemakers in Africa

Abstract

In the previous chapter, we saw how the religionization of politics had led to a very disastrous social and political predicament. Fundamental religious beliefs formed the basis of politics. Consequently, the religious faith that was based on the exclusion of the other created a political ideology that condoned and fortified the separation of human beings from one another on the basis of the color of their skin. Divisions of human beings based on race and ethnic origin became the norm. Religion built walls that divided the human family into a set of races that should be segregated from one another. At the end, fortunately for Apartheid, the internal and external forces stacked against it, including the religious ones that belonged to the same family, declared it untenable and contributed to its fall.
