Abstract
Although chronic alcoholism is endemic among modern American writers, only a select number of writers have been included in this book. Some of them have been chosen because their drinking history was legendary, and their obsession with alcohol was clearly evident throughout most of their work. Others are notable because their peculiar mindset is an excellent marker for exploring the fears and fantasies that are generic to the alcoholic perspective.
