Abstract

The Islamic world was deeply appalled at the abuse committed by U.S. troops in Iraq. The Arabs were profoundly outraged with the news about the dehumanization of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. forces. An article published in May 2004 by the New Yorker magazine was the first to report that an American general found evidence of “sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuse of Iraqis held at the prison west of Baghdad that was infamous under Saddam Hussein’s reign.”1
