An Outsourcing Primer

  • Chapter
Vested OUTSOURCING

Abstract

Business outsourcing as a concept has been around for decades. Many credit the technology services provider EDS as the pioneer for popularizing the use of the term outsourcing several decades ago to describe its service to run and maintain large mainframe computers and data centers. Others say the term has its roots in the movement in the 1970s to have outside companies manufacture some or all of product production. Still others say outsourcing is just a variation of sourcing goods and services. No matter what the derivation of the word, outsourcing is firmly part of today’s modern vocabulary.
