Abstract
During the latter half of 1501, all of England reveled in the marriage of Prince Arthur to Katherine of Aragon. Queen Elizabeth’s role in this essentially political event added an important personal touch to the diplomatic formalities that welcomed the Spanish princess, hosted foreign dignitaries, and entertained visitors and subjects with weeks of festivities. The marriage of England and Spain offered unprecedented opportunities for spectacle and pageantry, to which the court and the city of London responded with verve.
