Abstract

There is joy in geek culture: the excitement of receiving a new gadget, viewing an unboxing video, loading software onto a smartphone which was not really designed to run that software in the first place. Then there is a geek ‘gold standard’, which involves fine-tuning of the latest Linux distribution to get it to work on hardware not specifically designed for it. Curiosity is related to joy. Joy comes from the satisfaction of curiosity and overcoming technical challenges.
