Abstract

The benefits of mindfulness and meditation practices for adolescents are wide-ranging and encompass all of the major domains of adolescent development within a holistic bio-psycho-social-cultural framework. Literature substantiating these benefits provides the rationale for using mindfulness and meditation with adolescents. This chapter builds on the historical and theoretical foundations of mindfulness and meditation for adolescents and provides an overview of the existing research literature that highlights benefits of mindfulness and meditation practices and programs for adolescents.
