Abstract
This chapter explores the essential concepts of Heinz Kohut’s self psychology that are specifically relevant for understanding the religious experiences of the 1907 Revival Movement in Korea. In particular, this chapter focuses on his notions of selfobject, selfobject experiences, and group self, which are key concepts for analyzing the psychological processes involved in the 1907 Revival Movement. Kohut’s concepts provide a theoretical basis for examining the psychological functions of religious experiences in enhancing the sense of self.
