Abstract
China’s phenomenal economic progress during the past three decades followed by the steady growth of its military power has dramatically transformed the global and regional security environment. Undoubtedly, the rapid growth of China’s economic and military power will be the most momentous development of the twenty-first century with far-reaching repercussions on international security and the world economy from which Pakistan cannot remain immune. It is, therefore, necessary to understand the implications of China’s rise for the regional and global security environment in the formulation of Pakistan’s grand strategy. Further, keeping in view the growing convergence of their strategic interests, Islamabad must take active steps to strengthen Pakistan-China friendship and cooperation in various fields.
