Abstract
The introduction provides an overview of the book and defines key terms, such as scandalous events and public and private spheres, and we explain how these concepts relate to the chapters in the book. The introduction emphasizes how digital, social, and mobile media have placed us within a very unique “scandal moment” when every private moment is potentially under surveillance due to the proximity of connected devices. In addition, this chapter provides a roadmap for the reader, offering an overview of each chapter and explaining how chapters work together to provide a seamless understanding of scandal across professional fields and institutions.
