Abstract
This chapter sums up the main themes appearing through the different chapters of the book that loop the loop by linking up youth policy, young people’s political participation, youth-led protests and political reactions to young citizen’s engagement in its various electoral and non-electoral forms, in order to consider it holistically. Key points raised include the relevance of interdisciplinary approaches, the importance of language and concepts, the need to avoid stereotypes, labels and generalisations, the heterogeneity of young citizens and intragenerational differences, the political agency of young citizens, the usefulness of wide definitions of political participation that include young people’s interpretations, the roles played by politicians in alienating young people from electoral politics and triggering diverse forms of non-electoral Do-It-Ourselves (DIO) political participation as part of connected offline and online communities.
