Abstract

Democracies are premised on authority resting within its citizenry. Christodemocracy empowers its citizens with a strong, shared identity based in faith. Conversely this reliance on faith yields authority to interpreters of scripture. Groups that reject the sovereignty of scripture threaten the interpreters’ authority. So participation is encouraged while illegitimate identities are stymied.
