Abstract

The main writer of the Carry On films was Talbot Rothwell. He used genre parodies to open up the films to a wider audience. His approach was to take two contextually British film movements—the James Bond films and Hammer Films’ horror outings—to both lovingly parody and comment upon ideas such as sexuality, gender and class.
