Abstract
The importance of organizational capability has been stressed in different fields of management. In this chapter, we suggest that exploring new capabilities and markets is as important for an organization as maintaining existing capabilities and market operation. However, limited to its resources, a firm depends on the knowledge source of an external network to acquire more valuable resources and knowledge. This chapter analyzes the concepts of internal social capital and external social capital in the construction and cultivation of exploitation capability and exploration capability.
