Abstract

The author discusses the future prospects of East Asian higher education in the following manner. First, the author reflects on the history of East Asian universities in relation to knowledge transfer through translation into their own languages and identifies the current knowledge environments surrounding these universities in the era of globalization. Second, the author analyzes the profiles of East Asia’s top universities by making use of widely available indicators in the various international ranking exercises. Third, the author reflects on the upcoming challenges and future prospects of universities in East Asia.
