This chapter explores ways of achieving therapeutic change. Being creative can be the key to the success of a CBT intervention and is about helping clients imagine different ways of thinking and behaving. While working to achieve behavioural change can be more tangible for clients, it needs to be part of the wider CBT formulation that links their behaviour to their perceptions of themselves and their world. Of course, working to build more positive social identities should also be about helping them to make changes in the real world too. In the end though, the therapist has to be realistic about what can be achieved in therapy and remember that it is possible to leave clients and their supporters with a roadmap for continuing change.
