Funding, State, and Debt Crisis

Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to deal with the funding issue in Brazil. This issue is linked to the inability to create adequate capitalist organization forms in Brazil. The chapter discusses how the constituent parts of the tripod—a triumphant model copying developed industrial structures—were unable to promote economic development, given their structural problems. This problem resulted in external debt accumulation as a solution for the lack of funding and in the debt crisis. Furthermore, the analysis of the adjustment to the external debt crisis—in comparison with the South Korean case—shows that the State was obliged to absorb all the impacts of the crisis to defend private interests, throwing the country into a severe social regression.
