Abstract
Hanser describes what it means to be well, and suggests ways to thrive and achieve self-actualization or flow, even through a period of illness. Resilience and optimal health, or acceptance and peace, are destinations in the journey from illness to health. Holistic health and wellness provide the focus, in place of illness and disease. As consumers seek healthy bodies, minds, and spirits, they are demanding preventative strategies that maintain wellness. Engaging in music involves a focus on the parts of the self that are active and healthy. Music therapy teaches people how to uncover their creative selves, and brings them to a higher state of overall wellbeing.
