Abstract
The most versatile pragmatic marker, English okay, can be used in the same way as five of the Spanish pragmatic markers, with functions on all three levels of conversation. Another all-round marker is eh, which predominates in the Spanish data. The Spanish teenagers’ constant use of contact-creating markers seems to indicate that they keep a particularly intimate contact with each other. All in all, the 14 to 16 year-old girls are the most frequent users of the pragmatic markers investigated in both corpora.
