Au Pairs in Norway: Experiences from an Outreach Project

Au Pairs’ Lives in Global Context

Part of the book series: Migration, Diasporas and Citizenship Series ((MDC))

Abstract

What are the rights of au pairs in Norway? In 2010, nobody really knew the answer to this, even though sociologist Cecilie 0ien had stated in a government-funded evaluation of the scheme that au pairs had limited access to their rights (0ien, 2009, p. 29). The Norwegian government recognised that there were challenges, but in practice, 0ien’s recom- mendations have been turned into political action only to a very lim- ited degree, even with the Labour party in power for the entire period.
