Conclusion

Myths, Incorporation, and Systemic Expansion
  • Jon D. Carlson

Abstract

From the outset, this project was intended to focus on a critical element of world-systems analysis: the notion of incorporation. By refining the conceptualization of systemic incorporation, value-added is provided to the debates surrounding globalization. In looking at systemic expansion (i.e., incorporation), we are better able to understand the inherently social aspects of international relations. Thus, the question is: “What is the nature of incor-poration into the world-system?” This question serves as a proxy for “What is the nature of globalization?” and by inference, “Does our current under-standing of international relations adequately address this”
