Abstract
The bishops — and a vast majority of priests, religious and practising Catholics — were profoundly convinced that Franco’s regime, which resulted from the Crusade in defence of faith and fatherland — that was how the Civil War was considered — was like the Church’s secular arm … which was always ready to defend Christianity and considered Catholic unity as a cornerstone.1
