Abstract
The foregoing chapters have examined various aspects of labour relations in Greater São Paulo and their connections with industrial performance during the post-Second World War period. The study sought to explore the ways in which socio-economic conditions and the balance of power between management, workers and governments interacted to shape important features of the industrialisation process in São Paulo and Brazil. This perspective required a somewhat detailed analysis of wage-setting, industrial training and conditions of work, in an attempt to show the forces which determined their basic characteristics in post-war Greater São Paulo. The study proceeded to investigate how the varied aspects of labour relations affected the industrial capabilities built up after the Second World War.
