Southerners and Those from Afar

  • João M. Cabrita

Abstract

Like Chagonga, most Mozambicans from the central and northern regions of the country have a bias against those from the south. The so-called southerners live south of the Save River and are generally referred to as the Shangaan. In fact different ethnic groups inhabit southern Mozambique, some with a history of hostility towards one another.
