Afterword

Abstract

During my fieldwork in Dalian, I conducted research in local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), the local Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the local Red Cross. My research has shown that they emphasize a message of safe sex and faithful monogamous marital relationships. The undergirding assumption is that if individuals are equipped with the knowledge that HIV is dangerous and lethal, they will modify and alter their sexual behaviors. The crux of the message is that it is the individuals’ responsibility to protect themselves.
