Abstract
On 10 January 1968 President Ismail al-Azhari announced that all who had taken part in antigovernment uprisings in previous years, including the some '45 000 Sudanese' (a large underestimate) who had fled from the south, would be granted amnesty if they returned and gave themselves up. Not one took advantage of the offer.
