Abstract

Blanchot: ‘The suffering of our time: “A wasted man, bent head, bowed shoulders, unthinking, gaze extinguished”; “our gaze was turned to the ground”.1 Suffering in our time is not distinguishable from the great sufferings of the past. But there is the disappointment that astonishing leaps in technology have not prevented the omnipresence of war.
