Abstract
The advantages provided by global communications technology forced companies to redefine their policies and their business models with the aim of improving enterprise performance. First the focus was on web sites as information and messaging centres, but within no time this extended to transactions including the handling of intra-organisational chores, with a significant aftermath on product design, marketing, accounting and logistics.
