Abstract
Marcia Reynolds deals with a high-potential female executive who is eager to work hard on earning a promotion opportunity, and wants the coach’s help in identifying the developmental areas on which she needs to concentrate. However, the coach soon finds out from the coachee’s bosses that the coaching is being used just to keep the coachee happy: She is not viewed internally as promotion material. Unfortunately, the management is not willing to discuss the coachee’s career chances with her in an open manner. The coach questions whether she should continue working with someone whose final goal is unattainable.
