Making time go slowly

  • Peter Shaw

Abstract

It is an undisputed fact that there are 60 seconds in every minute, 60 minutes in every hour and 24 hours in every day. But our perception of the speed with which time is passing varies widely. Sometimes joyful moments pass quickly, while boring moments can take an age. Are we just at the mercy of time and our perception of how quickly time is passing, or can we be more firmly in control of how we use our time and how quickly time seems to pass? Sometimes success seems to depend on making time go more slowly so that we can complete the tasks we need to do and create moments of stillness within our days.
