Constructors, Customers and Suppliers: Interactions of Technologies and Hardware
Chapter
Abstract
Motorsport, viewed as a market, is highly segmented. The segments, or formulae (Formula One, Formula 3000, Formula Ford, Touring Cars, Rally Cars etc.), are differentiated via the application of sporting regulations. These regulations constrain or dictate all aspects of competition – the product, permitted technologies, geographic scope and promotion. It follows that the costs of competing and barriers to entry, are strongly influenced by these regulations.
