HISTORY. Persia was ruled by the Shahs as an absolute monarchy until 1906. The name was changed to Iran in 1935, when the first Constitution was granted. Reza Khan took contol after a coup d’etat in 1921 and became Reza Shah Pahlavi in 1925.
