The Kingdom of the Yemen is ruled by His Majesty, Imam Ahmad, son of the Imam Yahya (murdered on 17 Feb. 1948), who succeeded to the throne on 14 March 1948. Heir apparent is the Crown Prince, Saif Al-Islam Al-Badr (born 1926), who is also Commander-in-Chief and Minister of Defence, the King being the Prime Minister.
