Conclusion
Abstract
Our research has led us to several conclusions that challenge political and economic orthodoxy on the Right and Left. For one thing, the formation of neoliberal regimes and the implementation of neoliberal policies in Latin America resulted from sustained political and military intervention, at times directed but always backed by US imperial policymakers and their Latin American collaborators. The dynamic and dialectical relationship between the class struggle and the economic and political institutions of the imperial system set the stage for a neoliberal offensive. This offensive entailed a complicated multilevel restructuring of the system of global capitalist production, resulting in the privatization and deregulation of the economy, the concentration of income and property, and the polarization between the rich-and-powerful and the poor-and-powerless.
