The Central Role of Practice in Digital Storytelling
Abstract
Lambert provides a contextualising chapter in Dunford and Jenkins (2016) Digital Storytelling Form and Content, in which he reflects back to the early Free Software and later Open Source movement, the utopian ideals associated with the relatively low cost production tools and potential for distribution that came into play in the early days of the digital era. He describes the take-up of Storycenter’s (previously the Center for Digital Storytelling) classic method all over the world, in numerous settings, for a variety of outcomes from education, to community activism. Looking back on the DS journey and reflecting on current and emerging practice, Lambert concludes that being open to change and restless constant experimentation is the essence of successful DS.
