Abstract
The story so far: polio is not caused by teething, pesticides, ptomaine poisoning, electrical appliances or misaligned vertebrae in the neck. It is an infection, as was confirmed in 1908 by the grisly experiments in which Karl Landsteiner transmitted polio to live monkeys with an extract of spinal cord from a dead boy.1
