Abstract

State in the eastern Himalaya, between 26° 45’ and 28° N. lat., and between 89° and 92° E. long., bordered on the north and east by Tibet and India, on the west by Sikkim and on the south by India. Extreme length from east to west 190 miles ; extreme breadth 90 miles. Area about 18,000 sq. miles; population estimated at 600,000. The summer capital is at Tashi-Cho-Dzong, in the Thimphu Yalley, and the winter capital is at Punakha.
