Abstract

The World Council of Churches was formally constituted on 23 Aug. 1948, at Amsterdam, by an assembly composed of 351 delegates representing 147 churches from 44 countries. The second assembly was held at Evanston, Ill., in Aug. 1954, when 503 delegates attended from the 163 member churches.
