Abstract

The Republic of Venezuela was formed in 1830 after amicable secession from the other members of the Republic of Colombia. The constitution in force is that of 15 April, 1953, under the provisional government; it superseded that of 1947.

  • Statistical Information.—The Law of Statistics and National Census of 12 July, 1944, organized, as part of the Ministry of Works, the Dirección General de Estadistica (San Rafael A Hospital Vargas, Edificio’ san Antonio,’ Caracas; Director-General.—M. F. Recao), which is the sole organ of national statistical activities, except military statistics. It publishes the Boletin Mensual de Estadistica (from 1941), the Anuario Estadistico and the annual Estadistica Mercantil y Maritima. In addition, it publishes, when occasion arises, the Division Politico-Territorial de la Republica, the Nomenclador General de Areas y Lugares Habitados de Venezuela, and the Guia Industrial y Comercial del Paia.
