Abstract
This chapter introduces the research focus on the representation of non-Western migrants’ trauma narratives conveyed by means of their ELF variations during unequal encounters with Western experts in charge of the interactions. Such trauma narratives are seen as crucially diverging from the conventional Western forms of trauma representation, such as those established by the APA. Then, the chapter illustrates the intercultural approach to the cognitive-functional theories applied to the case-study method of analysis. Finally, the research objective is outlined, whose aim is a co-construction of ELF specialized discourses based on the hybridization of Western and non-Western trauma narratives, which would facilitate the mutual conveyance of the socio-cultural and experiential schemata of participants in such unequal encounters.
