Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to embed the concept of an optical potential for heavy ion scattering into the frame work of recently developed microscopic collective theories. This allowed to identify the usual h.i.-potential as a classical object depending on the center separation. A systematic expansion in powers of ℏ could be performed, yielding quantum corrections in form of zero-point-energy subtractions. These corrections come out to lower the barrier heights by about 2 MeV for heavy systems and up to 6 MeV for light ones.
