Abstract

Solid state NMR is used to study the orientational order in thin layers of liquid-crystalline polymers (LCP) after a preceding influence of an orienting magnetic field \(\vec B\). — Samples were produced of polysiloxanes with mesogenic groups in the side chains by melting the polymer between glass plates coated with a polymidie film. For orientation they were placed in the external magnetic field and slowly cooled down below the glass transition temperature. — Good domain orientation could be obtained if \(\vec B\)acted parallel to the glass plates. Alignment could be realized only in part if \(\vec B\)was directed perpendicular to them. There is no remarkable orientation effect of the glass plates themselves.
