Abstract

The Happel-Ciriack model for flow through a porous fiber plug is used for evaluating measurements of streaming potential. To this end a numerical solution is given and tested experimentally. Contrary to simpler models, the new method yields porosity independent ξ-potential values with synthetic fibers. With cellulose fibers, the values are no longer independent of plug density. An empirical correction is proposed which eliminates this short-coming.
