Abstract

A survey of physical properties of ternary IB-III-VI2 and IIB-IV-V2 chalcopyrite semiconductors is presented. Crystal structure, phonon spectra, and electronic band structure are discussed, thereby stressing and exploiting the close relationship of these compounds to the IIB-IV, and III-V zinc blende semiconductors. The discussion also includes magnetic resonance investigations. The potential of chalcopyrite compounds for optoelectronic and nonlinear optical devices is emphasized.
